Springs, Brakes and... Shakes.

This is where I have done the most work on the car so far. In November of 2005 I started collecting parts for a 5 lug conversion. I went the big brake route and purchased some 13" Bullitt brakes, so I figured, while I was at it, I would order some suspension components. Finally in June of 2006 everything was ready to go. Up front, I used spindles from a 1994 V6 Mustang. To these spindles, I fixed 13" vented discs and dual 40 mm piston calipers. Used steel washers for the ball joint offset issue and regular old rubber brake line hoses (well, Ford says they're Super Heavy Duty). In back I replaced the old stock 4 lug axles with longer 5 lug axles from a 1994 V6 Mustang. The drums went in the garbage and I bolted up 10" solid discs with 38 mm piston calipers (stock equipment on base and GT Mustangs from '94 to '04). Under the hood a 1994 Mustang Brake booster, 2 port Master Cylinder, FRPP Aluminum Adjustable Proportioning Valve and associated brake line goodies were installed.

All the used parts (and some new uncoated parts) were painted before installation, namely the spindles, axles, splash gaurds and rear calipers. I'm hoping this will help keep everything tidy, plus it looks good! While all this was going in, we hooked up new front and rear anti-roll bars from the Bullitt Suspension kit. 26.5 mm front and 21 mm rear, both tubular. Bullitt springs all around (600 lb/in front, 250 lb/in rear) as well as specially valved Tokico dampers. Also put in poly-urethane bushings but if I could do it again, I'd go rubber as the car is sitting at about 26.5" all around which is basically no drop in ride height. I am currently using MAC Adjustable Caster/Camber plates which don't look great, but do the job. Car ride is harsher than stock, but handles nice enough for me. No chassis stiffening at the moment, but obviously have some plans for the future! Big thanks to my dad who patiently assisted me with all my chassis needs!
